The Crosman Optimus Break Barrel Air Rifle (Check Price Now) is a new for 2011 spring powered air rifle from the Crosman Corporation. The Optimus is very similar to the Crosman Quest but achieves greater muzzle velocities in both variations.

Crosman has introduced a .177 Caliber (model CO1K77 / CO1K77X) as well as a .22 Caliber (model CO8M22 / CO8M22X) version of the Optimus which are both made with an elegant hardwood stock and forearm, an adjustable trigger, and pack a powerful punch achieving maximum velocities of 1200 fps in the .177 and 950 fps in the .22 with high velocity Crosman or Benjamin Branded Alloy Pellets. The "X" added on at the end of the model number indicates the combination model sold with an optional Center Point Scope.

The Crosman Optimus Break Barrel Air Rifle was introduced by Crosman at the 2011 S.H.O.T. Show in Las Vegas, NV.  When Crosman originally discussed the pricing of the new Optimus Air Rifle on the Croswords Blog, they set the pricing at $149, but the price has been much lower since it was actually released for purchase.

The Crosman Optimus is a springer air rifle which has similar looks and specifications to the Crosman Quest (2004) and Crosman Phantom (2007).  However, the Optimus achieves as much as 200 fps greater shooting velocities than its predecessors.

For hunting, Crosman recommends the Crosman Premier Domed pellet Model 022DB. These are a standard weight pellet that achieve a max velocity of up to 800 fps and generate 20.3 fpe.
