Crosman Pumpmaster 760

Crosman Pumpmaster 760 - Model 760B BB & Pellet Rifle
I chose the Crosman Pumpmaster 760 (check price) as the first post on my blog, because this gun has a special place in my memory. It is the first air gun that I remember shooting as a young boy in my Grandfather's backyard. Long before I ever had the strength to pump the 760, I remember my uncle handed it to me ready to go, gave me a short lesson on how to hold it, aim it, and fire it, and then I pulled the trigger. I guess it was love at first shot.

Over the years, I developed the ability to pump and use the 760 on my own and by the time I was 13 or 14, I was able to give a full 10 pumps. In college, I actually purchased one that use for indoor target practice on a box I filled with old phone books (a practice I don't recommend today, but the story is true nonetheless).

Today, I still take the time to fire a couple of shots when I get over to my Grandfather's house.  My cousin has taken the time to outfit the two 760's he has with scopes.  On one, he has the standard Crosman 0410 Target Finder that can be purchased separately or as part of a package, and he put a Centerpoint AR22.  The AR22 performs better, but for simple backyard plinking either choice will suffice.

The Pumpmaster 760 was introduced by Crosman in 1966 as the first Crosman branded air gun. Throughout Crosman's history, the 760 has remained a constant example of quality and affordability although Crosman has made adjustments to its design and materials to maintain an affordable price.  The original 760 was constructed with a wooden stock and forearm, but Crosman has moved to a synthetic stock over the years to maintain a low price. The 760 is a Variable Pump Pneumatic that uses an on-gun pump to charge a piston that is used to propel a pellet or bb toward the target. In 2001, Crosman released the latest version of Pumpmaster as the Model 760B. With a maximum of 10 pumps, the 760b can achieve a maximum velocity of 625 fps with Crosman BBs.
